Which means you’re running out of time to ditch those extra lbs you’ve been hiding under sweaters and jackets since Thanksgiving. But what if you don’t want to workout at one of those shiny new fitness palaces, where everybody looks like they spent more time picking out a perky outfit than actually breaking a sweat? amenZone Fitness Training is a Phoenix-based outfit offering back-to-basics workouts out of a bare-bones warehouse in downtown. Founded by former professional rugby player, Amen Iseghohi, amenZone specializes in “primal fitness training,” a high-energy workout routine that uses movement and a junkyard’s worth of old tires to get your heart a’racing. Inspired by the Belgium-born Iseghohi’s time spent with relative in West Africa, who stayed in shape using spears and old tires, Iseghohi got his start by offering children’s fitness classes at Scottsdale’s Cactus Park. Today, amenZone offers a full range of classes, including Kundalini Yoga and Zumba.
